Co-Location Questions

Co-Location Questions

What are the setup fees and monthly costs involved?
BurstNET™ usually charges a one time setup fee, and is dependant on the size and type of co-location package ordered. These fes rang from $49.95 for a single server, to $199.95 for a full rack. The full rate charts for available co-location packages are shown on the Co-Location pages.

How fast are co-locations set up?
Initial co-location orders currently on average take 24-72 hours to set up, depending on size of the order. Setup & shipping information is usually provided the same day that the order is placed. Additional servers can usually be installed the same day that they arrive at the BurstNET™ facility.

Are control panels available?
The control panels that BurstNET™ provides are available to our co-location clientele. Details on which control panels are available can be found on the Co-Location pages. Installation of the control panel, if completed by BurstNET™, would be billed at the standard $65/hour technical support rate.

How much assistance do you provide for my servers?
The BurstNET™ Co-Location services are NOT a managed service. Co-Location clients are expected to be capable of managing their own servers and equipment. BurstNET™ can provide technical support to our co-location clientele, however, this is billed at a rate of $65/hour, in 15 minute increments. For a detailed listing of what management services BurstNET™ can provide at that rate, please see our "Definition of Managed Services". As always, basic reboots are available at no additional charge to our co-location clientele.

What if my hardware fails? Upgrades?
BurstNET™ stocks replacement parts for all servers. BurstNET™ is always building new servers for our shared hosting clients, as well as our dedicated server clients, so a full inventory of parts is maintained. Hardware failures are uncommon, but they do happen, and are a part of the hosting business. BurstNET™ repairs all failed hardware promptly, to minimize any downtime caused by such. If you are a co-location client, please contact us for a quote for hardware replacement/upgrade, which will be very reasonable and based on current industry pricing and availability. As always, the $65/hour technical support rate applies for such hardware replacement labor.

How many domains can I host on my servers?
BurstNET™ does not put a numerical limit on the quantity of websites/clients you can host on your BurstNET™ co-location package. Such numbers are only limited by the amount of bandwidth you utilize and the physical limitations of your co-location package. You can host hundreds of small websites on a server, or just a single large site - that is strictly up to you. We do advise never putting more than 1000 virtual hosts on a single server, due to limitations within the operating systems and web server software. As a general rule of thumb, a server consumes about 1AMP of 110v A/C power. Some servers, including high-end Xeon servers, or servers with multiple hard drives, may consume much more. Please plan your co-location power usage and requirements accordingly.

What if I want to upgrade my co-location package?
You may upgrade or downgrade your BurstNET™ co-location package at any time, as long as you are not in a term required contract. You will be required to pay the difference in the setup fee for your current plan, and the plan you are upgrading to, should you decide to choose a larger plan. You will then pay the new monthly fee for the new co-location package that you select.

What if the server gets hacked or attacked?
The BurstNET™ Co-Location services are NOT a managed service. Co-Location clients are expected to be capable of managing their own servers and equipment. A hacked server may be able to be repaired, or may require a complete re-installation. BurstNET™ can provide technical support to our co-location clientele, however, this is billed at a rate of $65/hour, in 15 minute increments. For a detailed listing of what management services BurstNET™ can provide at that rate, please see our "Definition of Managed Services".

What is included in my co-location package?
BurstNET™ provides the facilities to host your equipment, including power, cooling, racks, security, and bandwidth. Generally, we hand off the bandwidth via a 10/100MBPS VLAN based switch port, however GIG-E 1000MBPS connections are available for larger clientele. BurstNET™ can throttle bandwidth at any level, via our Layer 3 based Extreme Summit™ managed switches. Rack-based clientele are responsible for supplying their own router (optional) and switch(es), as BurstNET™ will hand-off via a single uplink cable to you. Our racks are configured with vertical power strips, however, you are free to install your own power distribution and/or remote reboot equipment. Basic reboots are available at no additional charge. Technical support service (remote hands) is available 24/7 at a rate of $65/hour - billed in 15 minute increments. The BurstNET™ staff is proficient in most operating systems, and with most types of hardware.

What are the limitations on case and power supply sizes?
Co-Location packages for service by the rack, included a specified amount of power. You will have full usage of that specified power allocation, and the amount of servers you will be able to install will be directly related to the amount of power each utilizes. As a general rule of thumb, a server consumes about 1AMP of 110v A/C power. Some servers, including high-end Xeon servers, or servers with multiple hard drives, may consume much more. Please plan your co-location power usage and requirements accordingly. We do not limit the size of your rackmount cases, and it is entirely up to you how many servers you wish to fit into your allocated rack space. We assume a maximum number of 40 servers per rack however, leaving 2U space for switches. We do not allow "stuffing" of racks, with back to back "snub-nosed" 1u cases, or any other abuse of our generous offerings. We reserve the right to charge higher rates for blade server systems, which utilize small amounts of space and high amounts of power. For individual server Co-Location packages, we assume a maximum power supply size of 550watts. This is sufficient enough to run most high-end Xeon systems. Should you require additional power beyond such, or power for dual redundant power supply systems, please contact our sales dept for a custom quote. Case sizes should be limited to standard 1U or 2U rackmount cases, or standard "full-tower" desktop cases.

What are the guidelines for access to the faciliy?
BurstNET™ allows dedicated server and co-location clients ONLY to visit the BurstNET™ Data Center. Generally, visits to the BurstNET™ Data Center are by appointment only, and arranged for a mutually convenient time for both the client and BurstNET™ staff. However, we understand the need for our co-location clientele to have access 24/7 to the equipment for maintenance, upgrades, and repair. The BurstNET™ facility is a manned facility, with multiple staff members on-site at all times. Co-Location clients will be granted access with proper identification to the facility at all times. We do request however, that you notify us in advance of your arrival, preferably 2-3 hours in advance, but at the very least 10-15 minutes prior to your arrival. This allows us to be prepared to welcome you when you arrive, and not make you wait as long for identification and staff member assistance when you arrive. Please make sure to bring proper identification with you upon visiting, and if you are not the actual primary contact on the account, make sure to have the primary contact arrange for authorization and access prior to your arrival. There is an international airport 10 minutes from the BurstNET™ Data Center. The BurstNET™ Data Center is directly off of the US Route 81 Super Highway.
